Day 1

We all got up around 0700 so the girls could get to school and Mark, Nancy and I could go hunting. They are part of a hunting "club" comprised mostly of government workers. Mark and Nancy are the only "civilians" in the group. A few were sitting in stands (including Nancy), while the rest of us were tromping through the woods to scare the game into moving (wild boar, deer). 5 pigs and 3 deer were killed. I actually really enjoyed it and stayed warm! One of the hunters in our group was close to 7 feet tall...it was incredible! :)
Hunting in Germany is a privilege, not just a sport because not just anyone can become a hunter. You have to participate in a hunting school for one year, do six months of practicing, and have to pass three different tests (written, practical, and answering questions before a jury). It is very hard. Only three groups of people can own guns (police, military, and hunters).
For lunch, we had goulash (more like a stew) and bread. The rolls here are fabulous!
Helena had a voice lesson this afternoon, we ate spaghetti for dinner, and played Gestures. It was a full day and I'm ready for bed.

  1. Very interesting. Keep the posts coming. I bet the wild boar was odd yet interesting to see.

Also, I have been told from others as well that the bread is very good. Try to figure out the secret and bring it back to Verona.
