Monday, January 31

Today we went to Lubeck and walked around shops. Lubeck has a very old section of town that was originally like an island. Years ago, the only way to enter the old section was to go through a gate, but today there are roads you can drive on. Some of the brick buildings originated in the 1300’s. Lubeck is famous for its matzepan, a type of sweet.

Lunch was at an outdoor market next to an ice rink. The pigeons were huge in this market! They get fed all the time by people like us, who eat and throw them crumbs.

We walked in and out of shops for hours. Mark met with a friend at a cafĂ©. Since I couldn’t understand most of the conversation, I watched people out the window and recited verses in my head. I also had major hat hair.

I got the hiccups while we were looking for a jacket for Simon. The girls cracked up at how loud they were. Eating some ice cream took them away thankfully. Helena said if you get the hiccup that means someone is thinking about you. I guess a lot of people were thinking of me at that moment!
